Civitavecchia

Residence Murarte is situated at 30 meters away from the baroque church said "of St Mary of the Oration and Death" (with interesting relics of the battle of Lepanto and a nice moorish bell tower). At a same distance we have Piazza Leandra, with its old medieval walls built to defend the harbor from ground attacks.

As an important harbour and home of the papal fleet at a stone's throw from Rome, Civitavecchia has since ever been a crossroad of people and cultures and a commercial hub.

You can live again the ancient history by admiring the Roman thermal baths (Terme Taurine) and the harbour fortress (Forte Michelangelo), or you can dip yourself into the magical atmosphere of the city ancient streets where great figures of the past used to walk: Raffaello, Antonio da Sangallo, Stendhal, Garibaldi, Marconi, etc.

Civitavecchia offers dozens of shops and nightlife spots.

You can taste several food specialities: zuppa di pesce (fish soup) or spaghetti polpo e pecorino (spaghetti with octopus and pecorino cheese), baccalĂ  spinozzato (boned stockfish) and polipetti affogati (stewed octopus in spicy sauce), accompanied by typical white wines and desserts.

Of course, you will end your meal with the famous Sambuca. The name comes from the Arabic "zammut." That was the name of the anise-based drink when it first landed at the Civitavecchia from arab ships centuries ago. From here, the drink has become famous all over the world.
